A Yarra Junction woman who begged her best friend to check their TattsLotto ticket because she was convinced they’d won division one was stunned to discover she was right.

The Victorian pair held one of the two division one winning entries across Australia in TattsLotto draw 4255 on Saturday, 30 April 2022. Each entry scored a division one prize of $2,640,188.15.

This afternoon, we reached out to the winning pair, who explained how their win came to be.

“My friend and I buy our lottery tickets together each week. I’m in charge of Powerball, and she’s in charge of organising our TattsLotto ticket,” the winning man explained.

“But last week, I’d forgotten to put the Powerball ticket on. So, I bought us a TattsLotto ticket instead.

“After the draw, she called to tell me someone from Yarra Junction had won TattsLotto. She kept saying she’d wished we’d bought our ticket from there.

“I said to her, ‘Well, that is where we bought our ticket from’. And she started crying and saying, ‘We’ve won TattsLotto! We’re the winners! It has to be us!’.

“I didn’t want to check our ticket straight away because I was convinced that we hadn’t won, so I told her I’d check the next time I was out at the shops.

“A week went by, and she called me and said, ‘That prize still hasn’t been claimed! Can you please check the ticket now?’.

“I told her not to get her hopes up, but I went and checked the ticket anyway. That’s when I found out we’d won.

“She was working at home that day, so I drove over to her house and banged on her window. She was mad because I was noisy when she was on a work call. But then I said, ‘Here, give me a hug, you millionaire!’.

“She burst into tears. She was over the moon! She almost fell into the garden from the shock! We ended up spending the night celebrating with a few drinks.

“I’ve already made a few initial plans for my half of the prize. I want to use a good portion of it to help my friends and family. I’ll pop a few thousand dollars in some cards and surprise them with it.

“I’d like to take some time off work, too. I might even start a whole new job! It’ll allow me to rethink my career. I’m ready for a change.

“My friend has decided she’ll pay off her mortgage and some bills. Then we both might buy an investment property each.”

The duo purchased their winning entry at Yarra Junction Newsagency, 2454 Warburton Highway, Yarra Junction.

Yarra Junction Newsagency owner Matt Sartori said he was thrilled to have made more of his customers a major prize winner.

“It’s awesome, isn’t it! How great is their story, too?!” he said.

“We’re so happy for our winners and wish them the best of luck with their prize.

“Our customers always say how lucky we are, and we certainly feel it! We always sell winning tickets to our customers, which is just incredible.

“We’ve had three division one wins in just over two years, so we’re delighted. We’ve had even more major prize wins since the beginning.

“Hopefully, we will add some more wins to our list. We love when our customers win a big prize!”
